Just as we are living longer, so are our pets. Dogs and cats are generally considered senior citizens at age seven. Preventive care and early detection are as important for your senior pets as they are for you. Since dogs and cats age more rapidly than people, dramatic changes in health can occur in as little time as three to six months, even though your pet may appear healthy. That’s why it’s so important to keep your senior pet’s twice-yearly veterinary appointment. Catching small problems before they become more serious medical conditions is critical to your pet’s quality of life. And as with us, proper nutrition and regular exercise can help ensure your pet’s wellness.

By keeping your senior pet’s regular check-up visit every six months, providing proper nutrition, appropriate exercise, and a loving environment, you can help ensure that your cat or dog lives a long, healthy and happy life. You can rely on the expertise and sensitivity of our team at Johns Creek Veterinary Clinic to provide the best care to your senior pet.

Twice-Yearly Senior Pet Exams & Health Assessments with Annual Lab Testing

A complete medical history, a thorough physical exam and laboratory tests are all part of our twice-a year senior check-up visits. Laboratory tests are critical for early detection of diseases, when treatment is easiest and most effective. Your pet will be routinely screened for arthritis and dental disease and other medical conditions common in older animals. After completing the exam and reviewing the test results, your veterinarian will go over your pet’s health assessment and make any necessary recommendations, including specific diet and exercise guidelines and any relevant treatments. Safe and effective medications for arthritis, cognitive dysfunction syndrome, and other age-related conditions are available.
